In January JT and I were living in a 600 sq ft 1 bedroom apartment with just one window. It was small, but cozy and exactly what we needed for our first year as newlyweds. I am so thankful for the time we spent in that apartment. The memories we made there will always be some of my favorites. We started our date night cookbook tradition at that apartment. JT taught me how to play FIFA in that apartment, and we made big plans for the future. One of those big plans was buying a house.
We hadn’t intended on buying a house quite so soon. But in January new neighbors moved in who were smoking pot constantly, and I was so sick because of my asthma that I had to go to urgent care for breathing treatment! Our lease was up in March and we knew we needed to move. We talked about moving to another apartment, but it just didn’t feel right. After a lot of prayer and stalking the MLS website we decided it was time. So we started looking at houses!
In case no one ever told you looking at houses can be really exhausting. We were looking at 8-10 houses a day! But when we walked into this little bungalow it was love at first sight for JT. The love took a little longer to grow on me, but the third time we looked at this house I was sold. It was 2 bedrooms and 2 bathroom with TONS of natural sunlight, a patio off the master, and a mudroom. So we made an offer on February 12. Our closing date was set for March 12! It was a fast turn around and a complete whirlwind. But we wanted to get it done before we left for our two week honeymoon for Disney World.
March 12 was the best and worst day of the year for us. We signed the papers to officially have our home at 10:00 in the morning. At 6:00 in the evening the news broke that Disney World was closing on Sunday. We were supposed to leave for Disney World on Monday. I didn’t know how to process all the emotions, and honestly it took a few weeks for me to feel like we had a sense of normalcy. Now we’ve had some time to process, we’ve moved in, started painting, and bought a few rugs! Little by little I’m going to share some projects we’ve completed and mindful living ideas as JT and I work together to make our first home, the cutest little midcentury bungalow in midtown Tucson, all our own!
But for now here’s a virtual tour using MLS photos!
