I’m giving you 3 tips for a killer Instagram profile photo! Because everyone’s heard these two sayings:
- A picture is worth a thousand words
- First impressions matter
So let’s make our first impression a thousand positive words! I use these tips myself for the photos I chose for my about page!
1. Don’t Use Your Logo
When choosing a photo make sure it’s a picture of yourself! People want to know who they’re connecting with. We’re on instagram to get to know the individual behind the brand! Using a photo of yourself is the best way to introduce yourself! It really is like a virtual hand shake. Make sure your photo is a close cropped shot that shows your face, doesn’t include any distracting elements or logos for other brands, and you are the ONLY person in the photo. There’s nothing worse than trying to guess who we’re talking to.
2.a. Keep Your Profile Photo Neutral
It is good to create consistency in your brand! One easy way to achieve this is by using the same photo as your profile picture across platforms! And every time you change your profile photo it’s like you’re reintroducing yourself to your followers. People who have been messaging and engaging with you suddenly don’t recognize your new icon. So you want to avoid changing your profile photo as much as possible! Keeping it neutral i.e. no Christmas sweaters or 4th of July BBQs allows you to use the same photo across multiple seasons and social media sights! This includes outfits as well as decor!
2.b. Pay Attention to Your Background
This piggybacks right off keeping your profile photo neutral! It’s okay to have a colored background, but make sure the focus is still on you! That epic photo of you in front of a cool mural or standing teeny tiny in front of the ocean is not the right choice for your profile! Share it on your grid instead!
3. SMILE
This is my biggest tip! Make sure you are smiling in your profile photo! It will instantly create trust with your followers because it shows that you’re passionate about and love what you do!
Now that you know my 3 Tips For a Killer Instagram Profile Photo does your profile photo check off all these boxes? If not go take a new one! Here’s some examples using my profile photos and photos I would pick for my clients!
